Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Foreign Trade, called yesterday on the Gartner Inc., the world's leading information technology research and advisory company, to expand its operations in the UAE market and cultivate business relations with the government information technology, telecommunication and aviation companies to advance the e-government concept.

'The information and communication technology (ICT) and telecommunication sector is one of the key factors towards achieving the UAE strategy for economic development as an important enabling factor for sustaining economic growth and building competitive edge,' Sheikha Lubna said during talks yesterday with Vice President of Gartner Bart Van Eijck.

The talks focused on prospects of cooperation between government and private companies and Gartner in areas of technology and technological consultation.

Sheikha Lubna said the ICT is playing a crucial role in promoting the investment and business environment for attracting foreign investors.

The UAE has spearheaded the Arab region in the Network Readiness Index (NRI) of the Global Information Technology Report for 2009-2010 published by the World Economic Forum. They took the 23 slot out of 133 global economies.

This, she added, is a strong indicator for the success of the government of the UAE in building a knowledge-driven economy.

Vice President of Gartner Bart Van Eijck said the UAE market was important for global ICT firms, in general and Gartner in particular, as it offers high competitive facilities and attractive modern infrastructure. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
