Washington - UAE Economy Minister, Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, discussed yesterday with US Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez and Deputy Secretary David Sampson the progress of trade relations between the UAE and the USA.

Sheikha Lubna briefed them on the import-controlled commodities law that has been endorsed by the UAE Government. The US officials said the UAE was the biggest market for the US exports to the Middle East. Volume of trade between the two countries grew by 35% last year to the vicinity of US$13 billion.

Earlier, Sheikha Lubna delivered a lecture at the Centre for American Progress, in which she underscored the need for a durable solution to the Palestinian issue, based on the creation of an independent Palestinian state. She asserted that settlement of the Palestinian cause will help solve other problems that erupted in the past few years. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
