Lubna holds talks with Chinese officials

Guangdong, China - Economy Minister, Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, met yesterday the Deputy Mayor of Shenzhen, Liu Yung Li. During the meeting which was held in the presence of UAE Ambassador, Mohammed Rashid Al Bout, members of the delegation accompanying the UAE minister and a number of Chinese officials, the two sides discussed bilateral relations and ways to boost them in the area of economy.



Sheikha Lubna briefed her host about economic development in the UAE. She said the UAE is enjoying fast economic growth which would lead to achieving sustainable development, thanks to the visionary strategies of the leadership of the country.



She pointed out that the UAE'S gross domestic product (GDP) has appreciated by 23.4% in 2006 to reach AED599 billion. She said the non-oil sector accounted for 62.5% of the GDP, adding that the services sector of the UAE was also making generous contribution to the national economy by accounting for 50% of the non-oil sector's contribution to the GDP.



She also praised the transport sector's contribution, particularly the aviation industry. She cited the Emirates Airline, which has now become one of the best in the world. The UAE Minister expressed the hope that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and China would soon sign a free trade agreement to boost economic cooperation between the UAE and China.



The Deputy Mayor of Shenzhen, welcomed the UAE minister's visit to China, which, he said, would boost further the strong economic ties between the two countries. He invited the UAE Minister to attend the Shenzhen IT Fair, being held annually in October.



Sheikha Lubna visited a number of places in the town, including the Chinese telecommunications equipment manufacturer, Huawei. She urged the officials of the company and all other Chinese companies to seize the opportunities provided by the UAE's investment friendly legislations to invest in the UAE.
