Lubna holds talks with Chinese officials

Beijing - Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of Economy, held talks yesterday with Chinese officials over prospects of bilateral trade and economic cooperation and increasing Chinese investment in the UAE.Sheikha Lubna, currently visiting China for second time, briefed the Chinese officials on progress made by the UAE in all walks of life, focusing on economic growth and diversification. Noting to breakthrough achieved by the UAE in the knowledge economy,she invited Chinese technology firms to invest in the UAE by tapping the huge, profitable business opportunities.



'Although two way trade exchange touched US$14.2 billion, it is still far short of the level we aspire for given the great economic potentials of the two countries,'she noted.



Sheikha Lubna met with Jang Bao, Deputy Minister of National Committee for Development and Reform to review ways of developing joint industrial cooperation with emphasis on renewable energy sources.



The Chinese official said Sheikha Lubna's visit had evoked interest and appreciation among Chinese top officials as it reflects the UAE's firm desire to boost relations with China.



He said Beijing would welcome any UAE contribution to development projects. He added that excellent relations between the two countries provide an incentive for both public and private sectors in the two countries to establish joint ventures.



Sheikh Lubna also held talks with Joa Hua, Director of China Administration for Industry and Trade.Sheikha Lubna called on the Chinese side to cooperate in the area of combating counterfeit Chinese products.



The Chinese official indicated that there were 370 UAE companies in China and over 300 trademarks registered in China.



In the UAE, he said, there were over 1000 Chinese firms.



Sheikha Lubna toured the Noktech Company, manufacturer of container inspection systems. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
