New York - Minister of Economy and Planning, Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, has outlined the UAE's major achievements. During a roundtable discussions at the 60th session of the UN General Assembly meeting currently underway here in New York, Al Qasimi said the UAE had achieve great success in all areas of economic and social development through the successful implementing of its national strategy.

Sheikha Lubna, who was representing the UAE at the roundtable discussions to showcase achievements made so far by members of the world body in implementing commitments made on the UN Millennium Development Goals, said the national strategy was based on three major dimensions.

The first, she said, was the judicious use of oil wealth to provide the necessary infrastructure for the smooth sail of development in other sectors of the economy, particularly in the agriculture, industrial, commercial and services sectors. This, she added, was aimed at diversifying the UAE's source of revenue to avoid dependence on oil as the only source of revenue for the country.

The second dimension, she said, was providing strong support for and activating the role of the private sector by creating conducive climate for easy attraction of foreign investment to various sectors of the economy, adding that the third strategy was focusing on developing the UAE's human resources and on technology transfer. The UAE minister cited before the attendants of the roundtable discussions a number of international indicators that prove the success of the UAE national strategy. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
