Cairo - Egypt's official Middle East News Agency "MENA" today said the visit of President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Egypt, which starts on Saturday, came at a crucial time for the Arab Region. "The meeting of President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed with his brother President Mohammed Hosni Mubarak comes as part of the regular consultations between the two leaders," the Cairo-based Agency said in a special report said.

High on top of the agenda of the summit meeting, according to MENA, is the latest developments in Palestine as a result of Israeli atrocities against the Palestinian people. "The two leaders will also discuss developments in Lebanon and Iraq," the Agency said. It said President Khalifa is keen to boost the UAE-Egyptian relations.

"President Khalifa strongly believes that inter-Arab cooperation is the best way through which the Arab nation can preserve its civilisation and heritage," it said. Commenting on the progress of bilateral cooperation, the Agency noted that the UAE investments in Egypt now stood at around US$8 billion. The UAE is actively involved in construction projects, such as Sheikh Zayed canal which irrigates 40,000 feddans in Sinai Peninsula, and other land reclamation projects, and construction of Sheikh Zayed neighbourhood in Sixth of October City.

The report lauded the UAE economic policy of diversifying sources of income to lessen its dependence on oil. "The UAE is heading fast to become an international financial, trading, and tourist hub," the Agency said. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
