H.H Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) emerged winner at the 75 mile companion Kentucky Cup Endurance race which was held in Lexington on Wednesday leading the UAE team to an overwhelming win.
Sheikh Majid finished the 75 mile race on Kangoo d'Aurabelle (Al Aasfa stables) in 6:05.30. His avaerage speed was 19.7 km/hour.
Just one second later, the second place of the race was captured by UAE's jockey Ahmed Salem Ali Sultan Al Sabousi on Bess Ess-Ob ( Al Aasfa stables) who finished the race in 6:05:31.
In the third place came yet another jockey from the UAE. Yahya Sughayer Kanoon Al Ketbi finished the race on Medjerda ( also from Al Aasfa stables) in 6:05.53.
The fourth place was bagged by Spanish jockey Jordi Arboix on Gazal XVIII-3 (Al Aasfa Stables) in 6:25:09, while the fifth and sixth place were won by UAE's Mubarak Khalifa bin Shafya on Lellig Armor in 06:42:29 and Sultan Ahmad Sul tan bin Sulayem on Mitjons of Al Aasfa stables in 7:13:40.
In seventh place came Spanish jockey Maria Mercedes Alvarez Ponton on Shara (Al Aasfa) in 7:21:50.
Kentucky Cup Endurance featureed both a 75-mile (120 km) race and a 100-mile (160 km) race. Both races comprise a series of loops through the Kentucky Horse Park and surrounding properties, frequently returning to the Kentucky Horse Park for required veterinary inspections.
The 75-mile race began at 7:30 a.m. on October 14 and the 100-mile race followed with a 7:45 a.m. start. Awards for the 100-mile race were held at 10:00 a.m. on October 15 in the new outdoor stadium at the Kentucky Horse Park. In addition to honoring the top riders, there will also be an award for the best conditioned horse. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
