Maktoum left human marks on UAE life: GCC chief

Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdul Rahman Al Attiya has expressed deep grief for the demise of Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, saying that his successor would follow in his steps to make more gains.



'We in the GCC have lost a prominent Gulf personality who tremendously contributed to push the GCC common action forward,' Al Attiya said in a statement to Emirates News Agency (WAM) after he offered today condolences to General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.



'The UAE has lost a leader who contributed to its establishment along with the late founding father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Their Highnesses Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates,' he said. he late Sheikh Maktoum, he added, had left his conspicuous human marks in all political, economic and developmental life in the UAE, helping the country to become, in a record time, a well-known regional business, financial and leisure hub and a major player on the global economic, trade and financial services.



'He was one of the backbones of development of the UAE. is efforts with other UAE leaders had helped the UAE to secure a leading position at Gulf, Arab and international forums. His life is replete of devotion, dedication and honourable stances,' Al Attiya noted.



'With the demise of Sheikh Maktoum, the Arab nation has missed one of its faithful leaders who dedicated their life to serve its causes and those of their own countries. l Attiya expressed his confidence that Sheikh Mohammed would be the best successor to the best predecessor. 'Equipped with bold vision and ambition, Sheikh Mohammed will pursue the march of building and add more achievements,' he said. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
