Under the patronage of President His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, will open the 14th FIFA Under 20 World Cup at Zayed Sports City tonight.

The opening ceremony will feature a magnificent musical extravaganza followed by the opening match between hosts the UAE and Slovakia at 8.30pm. Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the LOC, attended the last rehearsal of the opening ceremony and inspected all the sub-organising committees at work on Tuesday. Admission to tonight's opening ceremony will be free as Sheikh Saeed has bought all the tickets for both the opening and closing ceremonies. More than 40,000 fans are expected to attend the opening tonight.

The organisers will be offering valuable prizes on raffles on the free tickets at all venues in Dubai, Sharjah, Al Ain and Abu Dhabi. Several international figures, including FIFA President Sepp Blatter, will attend the opening ceremony. Both Sheikh Saeed and Blatter will deliver their keynote addresses tonight. (The Gulf News)
