Mali's President hails UAE support to stability and development worldwide

Bamako: Dioncounda Traore, the Interim President of Mali praised the UAE's great support to the Malian people, thanks to the directives by the prudent leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of UAE Armed Forces.

He cited the UAE's support through the charitable and humanitarian bodies to the displaced Malian amid the chaos and crisis caused by the armed rebellion in northern Mali.

The remarks were made during the president meeting with Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State and the accompanying official delegation that included, the Director-General of the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, Ahmed Shabib Al Dhahiri and the Secretary-General of the UAE Red Crescent Dr. Mohammed Ateeq and other UAE officials.

Dr. Al Jaber said that the visit comes in the light of directives of the wise leadership, noting that the UAE is keen to support stability and developmental efforts in Mali, in addition to being a part of the country's efforts to secure basic and urgent needs for the developing countries in various parts of the world.

He added that the UAE humanitarian initiatives are part of the basic components of the heritage of the founding father the UAE late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who visited Mali in 1985 and laid the foundation stone for the strong fraternal cooperation relations between the two countries.

He pointed out that the UAE delegation visited Mali last March to assess the urgent needs there, stressing that the UAE supports Mali's sovereignty over its entire land and supports its people to address challenges in all various aspects, particularly in the humanitarian and development domains.

Al Jaber cited that the UAE is looking forward to electing a legitimate government in Mali, which will represent all categories of society so as to meet the aspirations of the people and achieve security and stability, noting the importance of supporting the efforts of the Transitional Authority, which aims to ensure national unity and political stability.

He cited to the UAE's keenness to continue the existing cooperation between the two countries.

The minister stressed that the UAE welcomes the Security Council's resolution No.2100 of 2013 on Mali, stressing the importance of the commitment of all parties to the resolution.

The UAE delegation has held meetings with officials of the Mali government, led by Mali's Prime Minister Diango Sissoko and other senior Malian ministers and officials.

The talks covered bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields. The two sides expressed satisfaction with the efforts aimed to consolidate and strengthen relations in all fields.

The delegation made a field tour to a camp of displaced people in the east of Bamako to assess the health and living conditions for the displaced people there. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
