The high number of lawsuits and cases which were settled or considered by Abu Dhabi courts throughout 2008 is attributed to teamwork at all levels at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department as well as to the employment of advanced technologies at different stages of processing, said yesterday H.H Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Head of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.

100% of the law cases were settled in 2008 up from 3% in 2007, he explained in comments upon reviewing the recent statistical data on the Department's work.

"The high numbers are an acheivement not only in terms of quantity but also in terms of quality. This reflects the successful new philosophy which was adopted by the Department and which resulted in the accumulation of experience to speed up the process of settlement and disposal," he added.

Sheikh Mansour expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Department's judicial and administrative staff.

He further stressed that efforts are being made to provide better services to the public.

Sheikh Mansour said those achievements which keep pace with the overall process of development nationwide were made possible thanks to directions from President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

According to the data, out of a total of 130008 law cases received by Courts of First Instance in Abu Dhabi, 128006 were settled and disposed of (98%).

At the emirate's Courts of Appeal, 8364 law cases (93%) out of 9030 were settled while the Courts of Cassation did 852 out of a total of 928 cases (92%).

For his part, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department Sultan Al Badi said he expected a growth of the number of incoming law cases in the current year.

He said all procedures are now computerized and all required relevant data on each case are electronically documented to smooth out procedures. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
