From its humble beginning 17 years ago, Global Village (GV) has gone on to become the biggest seasonal theme park in the region. This year, the theme park will be open for 161 days, starting on October 21.
‘New' is the key word this year. With a brand new 3D mapping show, eight new country pavilions, and stricter security measures, the theme park has several new attractions for the upcoming season. As an added bonus, entry into GV will be free on the opening day.
Speaking to the media, Global Village CEO Saeed Ali bin Redha said: "Many new countries would be represented this year, together with a new weekly raffle to win a car and the opening of a specially commissioned 3D show for Global Village.”
New attractions
New additions include Austria, Brazil, Greece, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and South Africa and displays showcasing a number of countries from Eastern Europe.
A total of 36 country pavilions will be featured in the new season.
Another highlight is the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, which will showcase handicrafts and products made by local artisans.
Abhishek Mathur, Director of Culture and Entertainment at Global Village, added that one of the biggest new developments this season is the specially commissioned world premier 3D show for the first time ever in Dubai. "The 3D mapping projection is a four-minute show that will be projected on the GV main office. The projection will be on one side of the dome and will continue for 43 days. It will basically showcase the heritage, culture and growth of Dubai,” said Mathur.
A European designed "mini-train” that will take parents and children on a tour around the whole of Global Village is another new attraction.
This season, Global Village will also hold 12 weekly draws to give visitors the chance to win a Chevrolet Camaro. The draw will commence on November 2 and will continue until the end of the park's operational season in March 2013. The draws will be conducted on weekends and people can participate in the draw simply by using their entry tickets bought at the gate.
Eid in Dubai
During Eid Al Adha, the venue will have extended weekend hours from October 21 to November 2 — from 4pm to 2am. However, since Eid in Dubai celebrations continue for two weeks from October 18 to November 3, the extended hours serve as Global Village's participation in this festive season, in addition to making the traditional Monday Family Day open to all until November 2.
"Global Village is set to play a vital role once again in helping to act as a catalyst for Dubai's ongoing growth as a major tourism attraction for regional and international visitors while offering a great day out for local residents,” Al Redha said. – Khaleej Times
