Yes, it's that time of the year again! When there are lights, music, fervour, and an echo of warmth in the air. It's an occasion when even the nature smiles at this beautiful nation.

Government departments, schools, universities, citizens and expats alike have already eased into the patriotic groove as the UAE gear up to celebrate its 39th National Day on Thursday. Celebrations have already begun and there are events lined up over the next seven days. From musical concerts and traditional dances to rallies and motorcades, a wide range of activities has been planned across the seven emirates to mark the occasion. Streets and popular landmarks like Emirates Palace have been lit up in the Capital with spectacular sequences, while Sharjah has decorated all of its cultural edifices apart from the usual brightening of the roads. Setting the tone for this year is the main event Kulluna Khalifa, with activities spread across the two days.

However, Dubai's part of the events would be officially launched today at Burj Park with traditional Yola dances, a military parade, a handicrafts show and music with traditional folklore bands music amongst others.

Celebrations are also planned across various malls and parks with focus mainly on Emirati heritage, culture and hospitality.

Municipalities across the emirates have distributed national flags as well as scarves and bands in national colours apart from handing out CDs of the national anthem and other cultural songs.

With the occasion offering an extended weekend and the weather being so pleasant, there won't be any dearth of revellers in the parks, wadis, gardens and beaches.

In fact, park and beach authorities across the cities are making special preparations to welcome the patriots and outdoor enthusiasts. Park activities throughout the week in Dubai include a National Day carnival at Mamzar Park, the Long Live Union Show at Zabeel Park and an Ukranian gymnastics show at Creek Park. Parks in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Sharjah have also planned special activities with a massive rally scheduled at Buhairah Corniche on Thursday, while a music carnival and dance show is planned at the Abu Dhabi Corniche.

In Al Ain, the Al Ain Wildlife Park and Resort has activities ranging from the national dance by a Badia band and a display of Arabian Salukis to falcon shows.

So, put your hands to your hearts and get ready for a week of mega revelries and celebrations across the nation. – Khaleej Times
