Minister of Health: H1N1 influenza under control

Ministry of Health and the National Authority for Emergency and Crisis Management launched yesterday, the second phase of the national campaign to raise awareness on combating the spread of H1N1 virus.

The campaign is implemented in cooperation with various authorities in the country under the guidance of the higher leadership to achieve security and safety for all members of society.

The ministry and the various institutions in the country had begun an extensive campaign since the emergence of the H1N1 virus for the definition of the disease and ways to prevent it from spreading.

HE Dr. Hanif Hassan, Minister of Health and Chairman of the Supreme Supervisory Committee for Combating H1N1, said that the ministry deals with the matter in full transparency and adopts all measures to ensure control of the situation in all its stages.

The Minister explained that the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum have always stressed the need for providing all the requirements that guarantee the health of the human beings.

He said: Since the onset of the disease, the wise leadership was constantly monitoring the course of things and providing all the requirements necessary to ensure control of the spread of the virus among various segments of society.

He referred to the significant role played by the National Authority for Emergency and Crisis Management and the continuous follow-up by HH Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Authority for Emergency and Crisis Management, adding that the Authority is the umbrella for unifying the efforts within the country in such situations.

He pointed out that the Authority does its part in achieving communication locally and globally in order to assess the situation and defining of facts, finally leading to decisions in a clear and direct approach.

The Minister of Health asserted that the H1N1 flu is under the control as a result of the decisions taken and directives given by the Supervisory Committee, as well as the measures adopted by the technical health committee and task forces to spread awareness. They could educate the public of the correct methods for dealing with this disease and ways to combat it, he added.

The ministry, in cooperation with the competent authorities, printed more than a million leaflets and organised many seminars, training sessions and workshops as part of the initial plan. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
