Minister for Presidential Affairs, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has said that federal ministries would be given full financial and administrative independence to handle their own affairs in a way that would enable them improve their performances and achieve their targeted objectives as per the national action charter that was launched by President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in his address to the nation on December 2 last year.

Sheikh Mansour, who is also the Chairman of the Ministerial Council for Services, made the statement today at the council's regular meeting during which the council approved the setting up of a social work fund which would support and fund social support development projects and programmes which educational centres, institutions and organisations would embark upon.

The council also approved the setting up of a special fund for the health ministry. The fund is to provide support for the health ministry's programmes aimed at getting civilians and the private sector to contribute to the development of the UAE's health services.

It reviewed several reports from a number of ministries, discussed resolutions issued by the 29th general assembly meeting of the Arab Satellite Communications Organisation, Arabsat, held in Muscat last month. It also discussed a report from the ministry environment and water on the 13th meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Regional Organisation for Preservation of Marine Environment. The meeting was held in Muscat last April. The council also approved a number appointments and promotions in several federal ministries. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
