Ministry of Labour to impose mid-day break rule from tomorrow

The Ministry of Labour will apply the ordinance imposing a country-wide ban on outdoor work between 12.30 and 3.00 pm from tomorrow until September 15 of this year.

The rule gives exemptions to works which requires uninterrupted work for technical reasons.

Mubarak Saeed Al Dhaheri, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour said that UAE under the directions of the wise leadership gives extra care for conditions of contractual temporary workers and developing and adopting legislations, international treaties and conventions that ensure their rights and protect them.

Al Dhaheri at a meeting organised by ministry of Labour yesterday at Park Rotana Abu Dhabi announced the launch of 'Midday Break Rule' and said that the decision has been implemented by the ministry for the eight consecutive years and is aimed at promoting the culture and occupational safety requirements. It also confirms the commitment to implement international standards in this area.

He pointed out that the Ministry of Labour during mid-day break ban will organised programs and awareness events as well as conduct visits to work sites. It is planning to undertake 20,000 field awareness visits along with 60,000 inspection visits by 19 teams of inspectors to check the implementation of the decision.

The ordinance stipulated that employers should provide their workers with shaded places of rest during the recess period as well as provide preventive means to protect workers from the risks of injuries and occupational diseases that occur during working hours.

The ordinance also stated that in case of violation of the rules set forth, the facility will be fined Dh15000 and in case of breaching the rule by the facility the inspection department will refers the case to Saqr Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, Minister of Labour. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
