The new Mission Entry Visa went into effect yesterday, the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs said yesterday. Dr Ali Bin Abdullah Al Ka'abi told reporters that the decision to issue mission entry visas for people working on special projects has been implemented. He said that in accordance with the agreement with the Ministry of Interior, renewable visas for 90 days will be issued to workers who are needed for special projects.

Khaliel Khoury, director of the work permit department at the ministry, said: "We have to first classify the companies according to size and their performance. "Later, a quota will be specified for each company and they will only be allowed to bring in a certain number of workers on the mission entry visa."

He added: "Requests for mission entry visas will go through a special committee. "Mission entry visas are valid for ninety days and can be renewed once only for another 90 days. Private sector workers who change jobs must wait 6 months for new permit. (The Gulf News)
