Mohamed bin Zayed receives UN Secretary General

ABU DHABI, 10th February, 2015 (WAM) -- His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, received at Qasr Al Bahr this evening the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, who is currently visiting the country to participate in the third Government Summit 2015.

Sheikh Mohamed welcomed the UN Secretary General and discussed with him a number of global and humanitarian topics that are of importance to the international community, as well as topics regarding the summit's agenda.

Also discussed were ways to enhance cooperation between the UAE and the UN in humanitarian and developmental areas and the aid given to nations and people affected by natural calamities and conflicts.

They reviewed the UN initiatives and projects to assist the needy people and refugees and means to overcome financial and logistical challenges facing such efforts.

Sheikh Mohamed outlined the approach of the UAE under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in supporting humanitarian works implemented by the UN. He further said that the UAE was considered a key partner for international organisations in providing humanitarian and developmental assistance to the nations in need.

"The UAE makes its own efforts and undertakes initiatives and programmes to alleviate the suffering of the people affected by wars and disasters," he said.

Ban Ki-moon praised the UAE's efforts in supporting the UN organisations and the aid it provides to the needy people in different parts of the world. He also lauded the Government Summit and its goals of tackling best government practices to provide best services and happiness to the people.

Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, H.H. Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court, H.H. Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care & Special Needs(ZHO), Sheikhs, senior officials and citizens. – Emirates News Agency, WAM –
