General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, arrived in Amman last night to demonstrate solidarity with Jordan following the suicide bomb attacks last Wednesday.

Shaikh Mohammad was accompanied aboard the flight by Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior, Shaikh Ahmad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Undersecretary for the Ministry of Finance and Industry, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Zayed Foundation for Charity and Humanitarian Works, and Shaikh Hamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Planning and Economy Department.

Shaikh Mohammad was received upon his arrival by King Abdullah of Jordan, princes and Queen Rania.

In a statement made to Al Arabiya television channel, Shaikh Mohammad said: "There should be a firm stand by Islamic clerics and scholars who live among us against this terrorism. Shaikh Mohammad added: "We should ask ourselves a genuine question and say, if there is not going to be a sincere stand against such unholy and inhumane acts, they will flourish. "Personally, I blame the clerics and Islamic scholars who live among us and with us. If they do not declare them apostate, the least they could do is to drive them out of the faith.

"Terrorism came to us in the name of Islam, so there is no point trying to throw it into other direction. We should be the ones who confront and resist it," Shaikh Mohammad continued. Shaikh Mohammad queried as to "what reason or logic justified killing children, women or elderly people gathered together in a celebration". He said: "The terrorist acts that took place in Jordan harmed us in the UAE, as if they happened here.

"I assure the Jordanian people that we are with them." Yesterday, Shaikh Mohammad and King Abdullah visited those who were injured in the attacks, and the Radisson SAS hotel, which was targeted by terrorists. Shaikh Mohammad and those who accompanied him later returned to the UAE. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
