Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum held talks yesterday with visiting Mayor of Chicago (State of Illinois) Richard M. Daley over ways of forging strategic partnership between educational and cultural institutions in the UAE and Chicago.
Mr. Daley expressed his sincere desire to extend bridges of cultural and educational communication with the UAE, noting to the dramatic transformations he was spearheading in the educational sector especially in promoting teaching of the Arabic language in educational institutions in Chicago.
He urged the academic sector in the UAE to offer their assistance in this regard.
The meeting also touched on the mission of the Noor Dubai Initiative, which was launched by Sheikh Mohammed to focus on preventing and treating low vision and curable forms of blindness around the world.
He said the initiative had won praise and appreciation from regional and international circles as a humanitarian drive underlining Sheikh Mohammed's commitment to bring back sight to those visually impaired persons in the third world and poor countries.
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, US Ambassador Richard Olson along with a number of Sheikhs, ministers and senior officials were present at the talks. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
