Russian President Dmitry Medvedev received in Moscow yesterday evening at Kremlin Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

He welcomed the visit of Sheikh Mohammed, considering it as an indicator of new era of distinguished relations and an opportunity to bolster historic relations between the UAE and Russia.

Sheikh Mohammed expressed his pleasure about visiting Moscow and meeting Medeved, adding that there were new indicators of the new era of friendship relations between the two countries on all fields.

He held talks with the Russian President on expanding base of cooperation to increase the trade exchange in line with growing friendship relations, described by the Russian President as historic. The two sides also explored striking strategic partnership on bilateral cooperation amid the Global Financial Crisis and stressed the endeavour of two countries to overcome it.

The talks also covered the Middle East crisis, other regional issues and ways to bring peace in the conflict zones such as the Middle East.

Sheikh Mohammed yesterday arrived in the Russian capital of Moscow starting a 2-day official visit upon invitation from Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

He was received by Russian senior officials and heads of the diplomatic missions of Arab countries, UAE Ambassador to Russia Omar Saif Ghobash and UAE students who pursue studies at Russian institutions.

In a statement to Russian News and Information Agency, Novosti, Sheikh Mohammed said he was hopefully looking forward for positive, tangible results of his current visit to Russia that would better serve mutual interests of the two friendly countries and their peoples.

Sheikh Mohammed said the two countries would work to inject new blood into the veins of the global economy to enable it recover.

'We are sure that this trip - during which we hold talks with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin - will produce common visions and fresh, creative ideas which will establish bilateral relations based on mutual respect and interest,' he added.

The two countries, the UAE leader hoped, would work to enable individuals and public and private firms to play a constructive, effective role to further strengthening bonds of historic friendship that tie 'our peoples' in sectors as diverse as culture, tourism, technology, education and others.

Sheikh Mohammed said his visit to Moscow on top of a high-level delegation of top government officials and senior representatives of the private sector underlines the sincere desire of the leadership, government and people of the UAE build new bridges and open channels of communications with Russia for laying a solid ground for joint strategic economic partnership.

Sheikh Mohammed hoped this would culminate in a true economic and investment partnership based on human and civilisational interaction. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
