Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum met in Dubai yesterday former U.S. President and UN special representative in HaitiBill Clinton.

During the meeting held at the Burj-al-Arab, they reviewed a number of humanitarian and educational issues around the world, particularly in areas affected by natural disasters due to earthquakes and hurricanes causing destruction to infrastructure including schools, health centers and universities.

The topics that featured the talks held between them focused on the devastating effects of the recent earthquake on the Caribbean island of Haiti, the international efforts to help that country and the role of the United Nations as well as other humanitarian organizations in the reconstruction process.

Clinton hailed the role of the humanitarian institutions in the UAE and their keenness to give help and support to the poor and needy. In this context he noted the great humanitarian role played by the "Dubai Cares", the UAE Red Crescent Authority and other charity institutions in the country in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of schools in Haiti. He also made special mention of the initiative of the "Dubai Cares" to support education and provide educational supplies for about 200,000 children in the devastated island.

The meeting was attended by HE Reem Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State, Ahmed Al Sheikh, Director General of the Information Office of the Government of Dubai and a number of officials. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
