Mohammed Bin Zayed and George Mitchell hold talks

General HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and US special envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell discussed yesterday the current developments on the regional and global arenas, with particular focus on the latest developments on the Palestinian front and the efforts for achieving durable ceasefire that will pave way for resuming Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations. Mitchell is in UAE as part of his regional tour.

The meeting held at the Emirates Palace was attended by National Security Adviser HH Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister HH Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Undersecretary of the Crown Prince's Court Mohammed Mubarak Al Mazroui, UAE ambassador to US Yusuf Bin Mana Al Oteiba, US ambassador to UAE Richard G. Olson Jr. and a number of other officials.

Mitchell gave Sheikh Mohammed an exposition of the results of his talks with various parties during his continuing tour of the region.

Sheikh Mohammed stressed the need for collaborative efforts where American, European and Arab sides work together for finding a practical mechanism that will ensure resumption of Palestinian -Israeli negotiations. He also alluded to the paramount role of USA in the efforts for achieving comprehensive peace in the Middle East.

Sheikh Mohammed reiterated UAE's commitment for cooperation and its support to various initiatives for fulfilling the desire of the people in the region for reaching a comprehensive and just peace that will be acceptable to all parties and will put an end to the recurring crises and violence that cause instability and insecurity in the region.

Sheikh Mohammed also underlined the need for serious action both on regional and global levels to push Palestinian and Israeli sides towards peace negotiations and to find a permanent and peaceful solution based on the international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
