The significant strides that the UAE has made over the last three decades under the leadership of President H.H Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, have propelled the country to the threshold of a new era, said Lt. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Minister of Defence. In a statement to "Dira'a Al Watan” magazine on the occasion of the UAE National Day, Sheikh Mohammed said: "This anniversary comes as a source of pride and inspiration for us to redouble efforts and achieve comprehensive development”.

Sheikh Mohammed extended greetings and congratulations to President H.H Sheikh Zayed, who is also the Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. He renewed allegiance and loyalty to him and wished him good health and long life.

The Minister of Defence also extended his congratulations on this occasion to H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Lt. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces. Sheikh Mohammed also extended greetings to the entire rank and file of the UAE Armed Forces. Following is the Full Text of Sheikh Mohammed's Statement:

History is but a documentation of the events and achievements of a nation at a given point in time. Our history is rich and replete with a plethora of successes befitting a modern state. This modern state, the UAE, has been lucky to have a skilled navigator at the helm, whose visionary leadership delivered the country against all odds. With the forthright vision of our leaders and dedication of the UAE sons, the country has been able to pass a dark tunnel and reached a new dawn with a bright future, as is conspicuously seen in the prosperity and development that has engulfed every corner of the country.

Today, we have every reason to be proud of our 31 anniversary, which marks the day when our four-coloured flag began to unfurl alongside those of our sister countries at the Arab League as well as in the United Nations, alongside the flags of some great countries that were established some 100 or 200 years ago. Although the UAE is a small country in terms of population, yet it commends respects among the comity of nations just as any other big country. It has also gained international reputation politically, economically, and even technologically.

The economic reputation that the UAE has gained is quite evident in the volume of international investments that are flowing to the country. The significant strides that the UAE has made over the last three decades under the leadership of President H.H Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan have propelled the country to the threshold of a new era. These achievements were only possible after our leadership persevered through difficulties and ultimately, with the help of God, succeeded to bring us to where we are today. Sheikh Zayed's inspirational example should guide us in our endeavour to achieve our national goals.

We will redouble our efforts to ensure that the UAE remains a peace-loving nation, a symbol of peaceful co-existence among cultures, a business hub and a land of festivals. This anniversary is indeed a source of pride and inspiration for us to redouble efforts and achieve comprehensive development. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
