The Mohammad Bin Rashid Charity and Humanitarian Establishment (MBRCHE) distributed 117 tonnes of aid to needy people in various areas of the Philippines affected by Typhoon Haiyan.

The aid consists of food items, such as canned foods, sugar, and grains, as well as hygiene products.

The move is in line with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Ebrahim Bu Melha, Deputy Chairman of the MBRCHE board of trustees, said that a relief team from the establishment was dispatched to Manila, and then moved to areas which were affected by the typhoon to distribute aid to the needy.

Bu Melha pointed out that the team distributed relief aid to 5,000 families in Bantayan Island. Each family received 20kg of rice, 2kg of sugar, 12 cans of coffee and sardines, and four bars of soap.

Bu Melha added that the relief team will remain in the country to supervise the delivery of aid and carry out its humanitarian duties. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
