A delegation from the Mohammed bin Rashid Charitable Foundation left yesterday for Baghdad in an eight-day mission to assess the humanitarian needs of the Iraqi people. Led by Abdul Rahman bin Sabieh, Head of the International Relief Committee, the delegation will also evaluate progress in the humanitarian projects that were started by the foundation earlier in Basra, Kirkuk Mousal and other cities, said Ibrahim Bu Melha, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Bu Melha extended thanks to General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for his unlimited support to the activities of the charity body.

"This support underscores the keenness of Sheikh Mohammed to support Arab and humanitarian causes. It also underlines his commitment to alleviate the suffering of the Iraqi people” said Bu Melha. On the progress of relief work, he said a relief plane carrying medical equipment will be dispatched to Iraq soon . He added that the charity body will benefit from an offer by the Sudanese embassy in the UAE, which has provided 15 physicians and pharmacists to work with the foundation in Iraq. Bu Melha added that the foundation has earmarked USUS$200,000 for the rehabilitation of some hospitals in Iraq. A plan is also underway to transfer some wounded Iraqis to Dubai hospitals, he said.
