UAE and Vietnam yesterday pledged to establish diversified economic partnership and boost trade ties. The pledge was made during talks in Hanoi between His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet.

The two leaders discussed the bilateral ties and ways of boosting them in both private and public sectors.

The Vietnamese president welcomed Sheikh Mohammad and expressed his country's willingness to go ahead with developing stronger relations and cooperation with the UAE.

As he lauded the achievements of the UAE's government and people in all arenas, the Vietnamese leader invited UAE companies and businessmen to invest in Vietnam and extend assistance in building its infrastructure.

Triet thanked UAE leaders for their support for Vietnam's accession to the World Trade Organisation and for its run for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2008-09 term.

Sheikh Mohammad assured the Vietnamese leader of the UAE's keenness to help and support Vietnam in all development fields. "We will bolster the bilateral relations to serve the interest of the two peoples by building a diversified economic partnership based on mutual trust and cooperation. And we will encourage Emirati companies and businessmen to invest in Vietnam and help its people make further progress," Sheikh Mohammad said.

The vice-president referred to the various potential avenues of cooperation between the UAE and Vietnam in the fields of trade, economy, culture, science and heath. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
