Mohammed bin Rashid holds talks with Iranian President

Tehran - UAE Vice President , Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum began talks yesterday with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Sheikh Mohammed arrived earlier in the day and held talks with President Ahmadinejad in the presence of H. H Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and H.H Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Sheikh Mohammed and President Ahmadinejad discussed ways to bolster regional stability, peace and the process of development. They also discussed the UAE-Iran bilateral relations and ways to further boost them. "Peoples and states of the region can be reassured that Iran's nuclear programme is peaceful and that Iran does not aim to make nuclear weapons," said Iranian President Ahmadinejad to Sheikh Mohammed "Iran seeks peace and coexistence with other peoples of the region," he stressed.

On his part, Sheikh Mohammed said he is confident that Iran who is a Muslim neighbouring state. "Iran has confirmed that it does not have any bad intentions towards the Gulf States which respect the historic good neighbouring relations," he added. Sheikh Mohammed has left Tehran concluding his Iran visit. He was seen off by Iranian first vice-president Pervez Davodi, Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki, UAE ambassador to Iran Khalifa Shaheen Al-Merri, Iranian ambassador to UAE Hamid Reza Asefi and other Iranian senior officials. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
