Mohammed bin Rashid meets Heads of States and governments participating in the WFES

Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum received yesterday at Al Mushrif Palace, a number of leaders and heads of governments in fraternal and friendly countries participating in the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) currently underway in UAE capital Abu Dhabi.

He met with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Seri Mohd. Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak and the accompanying delegation.

The Malaysian premier thanked UAE for inviting him to participate in the Summit, which he described as an important milestone for Arab and Islamic countries on their path of cooperation to find alternative sources of energy. He added that UAE will shine as a pioneer in this field of vital importance.

The Malaysian PM also praised the magnificence of the organisation at the summit, coupled with good reception and Arab hospitality.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum welcomed the level of international presence at the summit and expressed hope that this will enable the decision makers to make recommendations that reflect the international attention for the importance of renewable energy. There is ample reason to believe that the development and use of this form of energy will proliferate in several countries including UAE where there exists enough sunshine, Sheikh Mohammed added.

He also met with Greek President Karolos Papoulias, who heads his country's delegation to the Summit.

They held talks about the Summit and the desired goals, and the Greek Head of State stressed that his country shares the aspirations with UAE in the search for alternative sources to generate energy that is environmentally friendly and human friendly as well as friendly to government treasuries.

Papoulias expressed his as well as his government's desire in extending bridges of cooperation with the UAE in various fields and at all levels. He also extended an invitation to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid to visit Athens in near future.

Welcoming the Greek Head of State Sheikh Mohammed said that Greece's participation in the summit is a great support for our efforts to use alternative sources to generate electricity which will save government expenditure and reduce environmental pollution.

Sheikh Mohammed then received President of the Republic of Iceland Olafur Ragnar Grimsson and his wife. Welcoming the guests Sheikh Mohammed said that their participation in the summit is an important addition that will lead the event into success. Alluding to the cold weather conditions of Iceland Sheikh Mohammed stressed that the alternative sources of sustainable and renewable energy are very important to that country.

The President of Iceland extended an invitation to Sheikh Mohammed to visit his country and was accepted with gratitude.

Sheikh Mohammed also received Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Kuwaiti delegation attending the summit.

During the meeting Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Sabah conveyed to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid, greetings from HH Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah, Emir of Kuwait and his well wishes for UAE, its President and the people. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid also offered his greetings to the Emir and the people of Kuwait.

The meetings were attended by HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, HE Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and a number of senior state officials. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
