Mohammed bin Rashid opens FNC session
posted on 18/11/2008

Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, opened yesterday the third ordinary session of the 14th legislative chapter of the Federal National Council (FNC) in presence of Crown Princes and Deputy Rulers of various emirates.
Sheikh Mohammed met the Crown Princes, Deputy Rulers, other Sheikhs and Ministers, all of whom exchanged greetings with him at the Main reception hall of the FNC House in Abu Dhabi.
Standing at the podium beside the FNC Speaker, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid announced the official opening of the session.
'My brothers and sisters, the Speaker and members of the Federal national Council; with the blessings from God and the success bestowed by Him, I open this session, and pray to Allah Almighty to make this, an opening of boon and blessings for the country and the people', Sheikh Mohammed said.
Following the opening, the FNC Speaker Abdul Aziz Al-Ghurair expressed his profound gratitude to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for supporting the FNC and fortifying its role. He said that it is their prudent policy that enabled the FNC to play its national role in the most effective way.
The Speaker made special mention of the initiative of the country's leadership for strengthening the national identity among the sons and daughters of the UAE, saying that it will bolster the national spirit, intentness and determination.

Following is the full Text of Sheikh Mohammed's speech at 3rd Session of 14th Legislative Chapter of FNC:
In the Name of Allah. Most Gracious, Most Merciful, Your Highness, Members of the Supreme Council, Rulers of the Emirates, Members of the Federal National Council (FNC), Esteemed Guests, President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has granted me the honor of representing him to the opening of the 3rd Session of 14th Legislative Chapter of FNC.
I am glad to convey to you his greetings and appreciation of the role the Federal National Council is playing as a legislative authority in service of our national goals and the march of development, prosperity of the UAE, the foundations of which were laid by our historic leader and founding father the Late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Sheikh Khalifa, I and the Members of the Supreme Council, Rulers of the Emirates are following his speech.
Ladies and Gentlemen, members of the Federal National Council, We have closely followed the previous session of the esteemed FNC and appreciate your giving and initiatives. We wait for more from you and think that the Council has enough potential to observe the interests of citizens and turn it into work programs as well as to closely monitor the negative and positive aspects and translate them into questions to be raised at the pertinent authorities.
This is a huge trust put into the hands of your Council. I have to note the visible role of sister members during the previous session where their first ever participation in the Council confirmed that we won the bet that we made on the role of UAE women and that they earned our well-deserved confidence in them.
Sisters and Brothers, The UAE people expect a lot from us. This people believes in the Federation as a destiny and as an eternal entity. It put confidence in us. The UAE political leadership will spare no effort to provide dignified life for the UAE people. The directions from H.H The President to give priority to UAE and its nationals are still the guidelines which we follow and harness all our potentials for.
We do believe in and are keen on change for the better. Change is an intrinsic character in the universe and those who are not aware of the basic facts of life and existence will not find a seat on the fast train of progress.
And because we do believe in the significance of modernization and are keen on the progress of our country, the UAE's policy mandates for having a place among the most technologically and economically-advanced nations as well as providing all capabilities to achieve our goals.
Economy means, among other things, growth, progress and a better life for us and future generations. Therefore, we have to plant confidence in our national economy and to enact legislations to protect our economic achievements from the volatility of global markets.
I am calling upon you to engage in interaction with the country's institutions and authorities. I am also call FNC committees to make field tours to recognize the needs and concerns of citizens.
For the most successful agenda are those that are based on the reality on the ground and not those that are planned behind closed doors.
I wish you all the best. Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
