H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister, has issued in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai a decree, ordering a 20% raise in the basic salaries of all UAE national and foreign employees working in the emirate's local government departments.

The employees will start receiving the pay increase, retroactive on January 1, 2007, with the first salary to be drawn after the human resources law no. 7 for 2006 takes effect.

The decree provides for adding the salary increase to the total pay of employees after being re-graded according to the new pay scale attached to the human resources law. However, such an increase shall not be taken into consideration when calculating allowances that are based on the basic salary. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
