Mohammed bin Rashid visits Fujairah

Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum yesterday visited the emirate of Fujairah. He was accompanied by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed made an inspection tour of Fujairah Port, where he was briefed by His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah about the fuel storage and crude exporting projects being implemented there.

Sheikh Hamad said Fujairah had become one the world's three biggest bunkering ports and a vital hub for fuel storage, boasting 125 tanks with a total storage capacity of 3 million cubic feet. The port's facilities include 7 piers stretching for 2 kilometres.

He added that the port expansion plan entails construction of 125 additional tanks, bring the total number of tanks to 250 and the total storage capacity to 8 million cubic meters of fuel.

Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied during his tour by Lt. General H.H. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister '&' Interior Minister, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education '&' Scientific Research, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Public Works, Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, and Lt. General Musabah Rashid Al Fattan, Director of Dubai Ruler's Office.

Sheikh Mohammed also reviewed the Habshan-Fujairah crude oil pipeline project which is entering final stages of completion. He praised the project which involves construction of a 360 kilometre pipeline linking Habshan oilfield in Abu Dhabi with Fujairah at a total capacity of 1.5 million barrels a day.

He described Fujairah Port as one of the key hubs in the UAE and in the region.

Sheikh Mohammed then moved to Al Diyafa Palace in Fujairah and chaired a joint meeting between the cabinet members, and heads of the local departments in Fujairah in presence of the Fujairah Ruler.

He said that the objective of such meetings was to serve the national interests of the UAE, under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Mohammed urged the ministers to regularly conduct field visits to the different emirates and to interact with government officials for further coordination and integration among federal and local entities.

"The ministers are being given more powers to work for the development of the whole country. Remote areas should get special attention to translate the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan outlined during his speech on the 39th national day anniversary," he said.

Sheikh Mohammed announced allocation of Dh4 billion in the federal budget to implement 35 development projects in Fujairah between 2011 and 2013.

He ordered formation of a joint taskforce consisting of members from the cabinet and the local departments in Fujairah. He also stressed the need for the team to work closely with National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority (TANMIA) to provide jobs to the youth in Fujairah.

Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi welcomed Sheikh Mohammed and the cabinet members and praised his initiatives for the progress and development of the UAE under the prudent leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
