For the third day running, His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, toured various pavilions at the Abu Dhabi International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) to update himself with the latest defence technology, services and products on display by both national and international exhibitors.

A total of 1,112 companies from 59 countries are showcasing advanced defence technology, systems and solutions across land, sea and air sectors at IDEX, the only tri-service exhibition in the Middle East and North Africa.

Sheikh Mohammed stopped at the pavilion of Mubadala, the Abu Dhabi-based investment and development company, where he was briefed on participation of its seven companies operating in the defence sector. The Mubadala defence-related network delivers technical, training and project management expertise across aviation, maritime, and ground-based platforms. Mubadala officials informed Sheikh Mohammed about future Emiratisation strategies.

With Emiratisation at the heart of their development strategies, the companies are committed to creating thousands of jobs for UAE Nationals by 2017. By offering unrivalled training and career opportunities for UAE Nationals, Mubadala is supporting the development of the next generation of Emirati scientists, engineers and technicians across the spectrum of its defence-related businesses.

At the Emirates Advanced Research and Technology Holding (EARTH), Sheikh Mohammed listened to officials speaking about their technical researches to improve operational performance and efficiency of military vehicles and systems. They told Sheikh Mohammed of a research project in partnership with Khalifa University students to design and develop an all-terrain vehicle which will enter an international competition to be held in Washington next June.

Sheikh Mohammed said he was proud to see the national administrative and technical professionals contributing effectively to improve quality of local industry and product.

'Engagement of UAE youth in such qualitative and precision sectors brings comfort and enhances confidence in competence of our youth to address challenges,' he said.

While touring IDEX, the Crown Prince shook hands with visiting school students, saying he was glad to see the youngsters coming to IDEX to gain knowledge about defence industry.

Sheikh Mohammed then headed to the US pavilion where he was welcomed by the U.S. Ambassador to the UAE, Michael H. Corbin, and Thomas Kelly, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, and head of the US delegation to IDEX. Sheikh Mohammed met with top executives of US companies like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon and others.

Sheikh Mohammed concluded his tour by a meeting with Oleksandr Oliynyk, First Deputy of Ukraine's Defence Minister where they talked about ways of enhancing relations of cooperation and friendship in defence and military fields. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
