Mohammed bin Zayed lays foundation stone for Bab Al Bahr project in Rabat

H.H General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces and HRH Prince Moulay Rachid of Morocco yesterday laid the foundation stone of the Bab al-Bahar mega development in Morocco.

The mixed-use project to be constructed by Dhabi's Dhabi-based Al Maabar International Investments to further bolster Morocco's tourism industry received the blessings of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and is being followed up on by H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The huge project reflects the strong historical relations between the UAE and Morocco.

At the ceremony, Sheikh Mohammed and Prince viewed a presentation on the phases of the project which is worth more than USUS$ 750 million and is scheduled for completion in 2012.

55000 square meters of residential and commercial buildings, a 5-star hotel, hotel apartments, office buildings, shopping centres, a theatre, arts city, a tunnel, a bridge and full amenities and facilities will be built on an area of 7 million square feet on the estuary of Bouregrag River on the Mediterranean.

The 7 specialised districts of Bab Al Bahr feature a mixture of Andalusian and local modern architecture of Rabat and Sala cities.

Present at the ceremony were H.H Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed al-Nahyan, Foreign Minister, H.H Sheikh Dhiab Bin Zayed al-Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Nahyan, Minister of Public Works, Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bawardi, Secretary General of the Executive Council, Mohammed Mubarak al-Mazrouie, Undersecretary at the Crown Prince's Court, Dr Hamdan Musallam al-Mazrouie, Chairman of the General Authority of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Saeed Humaid al-Ketbi, UAE Ambassador to Morocco. Also present from the Moroccan side were Minister of Equipment '&' Transport Karim Ghellab, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, '&' Social Economy Mohamed Boussaid, Wali of Rabat Hassan al-Omrani and other senior officials.

Sheikh Mohammed is in Rabat for a 3-day official visit to Morocco. He is leading a high-level delegation from Abu Dhabi's public and private sectors. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
