Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces H.H General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met yesterday in Abu Dhabi, U.S. Middle East envoy Senator George Mitchell.

The U.S envoy briefed Sheikh Mohammed on the results of his talks with Egyptian President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak, as well as with Palestinian and Israeli sides within the framework of his efforts to push forward the peace negotiations aimed at resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

General Sheikh Mohammed and Mitchell discussed the recent developments in the peace process and the reconciliation efforts between Palestinian and Israeli sides. They also pondered over the steps to be taken in order to achieve concrete progress in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations to ensure an independent and viable Palestinian state.

General Sheikh Mohammed also asserted the importance of U.S. and international efforts exerted to resolve the conflict in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, agreements and the Arab peace initiative. He stressed the need to remove obstacles that impede progress in talks between the Palestinians and Israel as the step toward a peaceful solution and the achievement of peace in the region, including cessation of all procedures and practices that would undermine the trust between the two sides.

Senator Mitchell stressed that the United States supports the establishment of a viable peace in the region, referring to the keenness of Washington on making every possible effort to push the negotiations forward reaching into the two-state solution. – Emirates News
