His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces toured various wings of the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX 2011) as it entered the second day of busy activities.

The 10th edition of the major global event is held in Abu Dhabi under the patronage of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

In the first hours of his inspectional tour, Sheikh Mohammed spent time at the wing of UAE's Tawazun Holding, where he listened to briefings on its new projects.

UAE companies occupy more than 12,000sqm of space at IDEX 2011 with 169 exhibitors including Tawazun Holding, Mubadala Development Company, and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority.

Tawazun Holding envisions fast industrial development in the emirate of Abu Dhabi through enhancement of partnership between public and private enterprises, which will create enormous employment opportunities for the citizens, Sheikh Mohammed was told.

He spelt out his pride over the national productivity and the penchant of the citizens to bear responsibilities in various sectors, thanks to the support given by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The Emirati companies participating in the exhibition prove the nationwide capability in the fields of advanced research, development and manufacturing.

Sheikh Mohammed stopped to watch a three-dimensional replica of the Tawazun Industrial Complex and the Tawazun City for Disaster Management, and then proceeded to the Caracal, a Tawazun Subsidiary.

Caracal International is the first arms manufacturer in the country and is exhibiting its line of innovative defence products. Caracal is also exhibiting its first line of rifles with both hunting and defence applications.

Sheikh Mohammed also visited NIMR Automotive, which exhibits for the first time at IDEX as a Tawazun subsidiary. NIMR is the first UAE defence manufacturer to produce a range of land vehicles specifically designed for active military applications. He listened to a presentation by Tawazun CEO Saif Mohammed Al-Hajri on the various phases in the implementation of major industrial projects, which are in line with the national strategy of economic diversification, industrial development and enhancement of national capacities. These projects will contribute to the creation of more job opportunities for citizens in the industrial sector.

Sheikh Mohammed also visited the wing of the International Golden Group and listened to presentations by its CEO Fadel Saif Al Kaabi. The company Chairman Retired Lieutenant-General Mohammed Hilal Al Kaabi, was in attendance.

Sheikh Mohammed then went around the wings of international exhibitors and viewed the latest products and technologies in the land and air defence.

Over a thousand companies from 53 countries are showcasing their latest weapons, technologies and equipments in the defence sector.

IDEX 2011 was opened on Sunday by Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in the presence of a high-profile audience of Sheikhs, ministers, senior civilian and military officials, in addition to 66 defence ministers, 64 chiefs of staff, top commanders as well as VIP guests, dignitaries, diplomats and leaders of the world defence industry. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
