His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces made an inspectional tour yesterday to the inaugural NAVDEX, a dedicated exhibition for the naval defence, coastal and maritime security industries.

NAVDEX is running concurrently with the 10th edition of the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX 2011) in Abu Dhabi. Over 88 companies from 17 countries specialising in naval defence industry are participating in the region's major event. Sheikh Mohammed took a tour around various pavilions in the exhibition where local and international companies showcase their latest products and technologies including naval vessels, military frigates and submarines.

Sheikh Mohammed listened to presentations given by participating firms on various products and technologies which can be used both in times of peace and war to address the types of threats posed to vessels and vital installations in the coastal and marine areas. He was also briefed on the latest defensive techniques and solutions naval forces can use to protect vessels from piracy and hostile attacks and to detect mines and explosives and maintain security and the safety in territorial waters. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
