Tokyo: His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces made a tour Tuesday of Tokai University, one of Japan's leading universities which was founded in 1943 and is renowned for its educational programmes in the fields of medicine, healthcare, nuclear energy, advanced technology, air and sea navigation, agriculture, as well as Japanese traditional sports.

Sheikh Mohamed was accompanied during his tour by H.H. Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, members of the accompanying delegation and Saeed Ali Yousif Al Nowais, UAE Ambassador to Japan.

Sheikh Mohamed was received upon his arrival by the University's executive officers who briefed him on the fields of specialisations and the applied methods of education and curricula offered to around 30,000 students in ten campuses across Japan. Of 500 foreign students studying at the university, 12 are Emiratis.

Following his tour, Sheikh Mohamed attended a show for Judo and Kendo, two of Japan's most prominent martial arts, seen as a way of life encompassing physical, spiritual, and moral dimensions with a focus of self-improvement, fulfilment, or personal growth. Taking part in the show were 3 Emirati students who are training there as part of an agreement between the UAE Judo Association and Tokai University.

The show was organised under the supervision of the international Judo master Yamashita Sensei and International Judo Federation (IJF) member who won five gold medals in international Judo competitions. At the end of the show, Master Yamashita Sensei presented Sheikh Mohamed with aJudogi (Judo outfit) and a black belt.

Sheikh Mohamed greeted the students taking part in the show and said that he was pleased to see Emirati students sharing skills of this unique sport with their Japanese peers.

Sheikh Mohamed also viewed a model of 'Tokai Challenger', a solar-powered car which can travel for 330 kilometres at a speed of 160 KM/H. The car was developed by a team of Tokai University students, including students from the UAE's Petroleum Institute.

Member of the team of developers Salem Rashid Omran Taryam briefed Sheikh Mohamed on the car's features, including the use of environment friendly materials. The car competed in 3 races, two in Australia and one in South Africa and is scheduled for display at Masdar City in Abu Dhabi later this year.

Sheikh Mohammed praised the students' innovative vision for combining clean natural resources with modern technology for a sustainable future.

The executives at Tokai University welcomed the visit of Sheikh Mohamed as a step forward to further cooperation in research and development programme and exchange of expertise in educational and sports fields. – Emirates News Agency,
