Mohammed receives US Commander

H.H. Gen. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, received yesterday Admiral Michael Mullen, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff.

A s he welcomed the US top commander, Sheikh Mohammed said the UAE, under the leadership of President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, boasts of its existing relations of friendship with the US and is keen to further strengthen them to realise aspirations of the two friendly countries and peoples.

The meeting, which was attended by Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, discussed ways of further enhancing the close bilateral relations.

Sheikh Mohammed and his US guest also exchanged views on a host of issues of mutual concern and latest developments in the Gulf and Middle East. Efforts to launch serious peace negotiations in the Middle East for attaining the comprehensive and just peace and security and stability in the region were also touched.

The UAE and US officials stressed the importance of good faith by all parties for relaunching the peace process and materialising the US President Barack Obama's vision for the two states solution living side by side in peace, cooperation and stability.

Obama's speech in Cairo in which he dwelt on peace, security, [progress and welfare was also figured in the meeting.

The two sides highlighted the need for cultural interaction and openness as the surest, right way to denounce violence, terrorism, extremism, and foster understanding, tolerance, love and peace among peoples of the world. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
