General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Minister of Defence, on 9 April urged the United Nations Security Council to implement Chapter Seven of the United Nations Charter and send troops to Palestine.

He said in a press statement that, ‘the Security Council had recourse to Chapter Seven against Iraq when it invaded Kuwait, Indonesia to protect the people of East Timor, Yugoslavia to protect the people of Bosnia and Kosovo, and urged the UN to implement Chapter Seven against Israel, to stop the massacre of Palestinians'.

Talking about Israel's refusal of U.S. President George W. Bush's call to withdraw its forces from Palestine, he said: ‘No one in the world can believe the United States is incapable of forcing Israel to withdraw from occupied Palestinian towns.' He thanked President Bush for belatedly calling on Israel to pull out of Israel, saying ‘he knows the crimes that Israel continues to commit. We would like to know the U.S. stance on the refusal of Sharon to heed the call by the world super power.'

The U.S. administration, he noted, ‘realises the huge loss to its image in the Arab world and around the world because of the Israeli assault. World opinion is increasingly disgusted by Israel's actions and by Washington's protection of the aggressor', Sheikh Mohammed said.

Sheikh Mohammed also expressed his ‘pain' at the failure of the Arab states ‘to carry out effective action in line with the aspirations of the Arab people'. He said that the Arab states should take diplomatic, political and economic measures against Israel.
