The Board of Directors of the National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) announced in Abu Dhabi yesterday a contribution of five million Dirhams to the Tsunami Relief Fund (TRF). The contribution will be made through the Red Crescent Society for their disbursement in the affected countries.

In a statement to announce the donation, Michael H. Tomalin, NBAD's Chief Executive, mentioned that bank is overwhelmed by the immensity of the tragedy. "Many people in the UAE have friends and family whose lives have been severely affected. Events like this remind us of our common humanity," he said. Tomalin expressed the bank's wish to make a substantial contribution, that represents one percent of total annual expenses, to the TRF. In so doing, the NBAD hopes that it will encourage further support from other banks in the UAE and elsewhere", Tomalin added. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
