NCC recommends Mufti for Abu Dhabi

The National Consultative Council (NCC) has stressed on the need to appoint a ‘Mufti' for the emirate of Abu Dhabi to avoid confusion arising out of multiple sources issuing ‘fatwas' in the emirate. Yesterday, the House made this proposal to the Executive Council's General Secretariat, which has referred the recommendation to the Sharia Judicial Department.

"The existence of multiple sources for fatwas in the emirate leads to confusion in comprehending Sharia laws and rules,” said the House, during its final session of the 16th Legislative Chapter, held yesterday on the NCC premises. The Council session was chaired by the NCC Speaker, Abdullah Al Masood.

Commencing in November 2006, the 16th Legislative Chapter of the Council has issued several vital recommendations on important issues, including environment protection, development projects in the Western and Eastern Regions, maintenance of mosques, fixing minimum wages for less skilled labourers, trade fraudulence, increasing social security and pensions for UAE nationals, and road safety.
