NCC urges more centres to expand youth activities

Young people in Abu Dhabi could soon be given a number of new sports and cultural clubs. The National Consultative Council (NCC) reviewed a committee report on current youth projects and clubs in the emirate and concluded that more work needs to be done to improve and expand facilities. The house proposed setting up a number of Youth Care Centres in densely populated areas to organise and to play host to cultural and sports activities and summer camps for young people. The council said the centres could be managed by Emirates Heritage Club, the largest youth organisation in Abu Dhabi.

The house reviewed the current activities of existing clubs and organisations and called for investment in the proposed projects. According to the report, more projects are underway to set up youth centres, with the latest facilities as well as high-tech equipment to help improve the physical and mental health of children. The house was told about other projects on scientific research in history, cultural heritage and modern science, involving the participation of teachers' and parents' councils. During the debate, members suggested building more summer camps. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
