NCC wants major overhaul of postal system

The National Consultative Council (NCC) of Abu Dhabi has demanded drastic changes in the country's postal system. The council asked the Emirates Post to introduce direct postal delivery services in addition to the existing system of post boxes. Chaired by Speaker Abdullah Mohammed Al Masaood, Monday's meeting reviewed a report prepared by a house committee on the issue.

The issue was raised by members on several occasions, asking the authorities concerned to improve the country's postal services. Earlier, members maintained that it was not easy for every individual from a population of more than three million to get a personal box.

The report said there is a need for developing local postal services, considering a door-to-door postal delivery service, which is common around the world, to reduce dependence on the individual post box distribution system.

The report further questioned the postal authority as to why a direct delivery system could not be adopted in the country. The council also suggested area-wise postal codes to be introduced in the country for fast delivery. (The Gulf News)
