Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, has emphasised the importance of preparing and launching a national strategy for the Arabic language.

The national strategy includes an integrated system of goals and innovative ideas and initiatives, as well as laws and practices, through which a significant change can be achieved in the linguistic reality in the community in order to preserve the position of the Arabic language and restore the native language to new generations.

Sheikh Nahyan noted that the need to carry out a comprehensive analysis on the reality of Arabic language in UAE society to determine the necessary steps to develop it so as to ensure that interest in the Arabic language will be long-term according to a clear and specific strategy involving all concerned institutions and bodies in the country.

This came when Sheikh Nahyan presided over the first meeting of the second session of the Consultative Council of the Arabic language, which was held yesterday at the Ministry's headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

During the meeting, the participants were briefed on the Cabinet decision on the restructuring of the Council, in addition to discussing a comprehensive report on the activities of the first session and what has been achieved during its last period, as well as the decision to establish and organise the Emirates Centre of Arabic Language in the Ministry, and its role in the protection of the Arabic language and its future plans.

The meeting was attended by Afra Al Sabri, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development and members of the Consultative Council of the Arabic Language. – Emirates News Agency, WAM -
