The UAE on Wednesday commemorated the seventh death anniversary of Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE's founding father, who passed away on November 2, 2004.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, wrote on his Facebook page: "On the anniversary of Sheikh Zayed's passing, I say: May God have mercy on the soul of who taught me to conquer the impossible and the true meaning of love through his identity as an Arab, his nature & his leadership."
Emirati citizens mark the anniversary of Sheikh Zayed's death every year with various national programmes talking about his achievements as the UAE's visionary leader, and remembering him as one of the great nation-builders of all time, who remains a role model for his people and the Arab world.
Sheikh Zayed was the Arab world's longest-serving president and played a leading role as the Ruler of Abu Dhabi for half a century since 1966 and as president of the UAE for more than three decades. – Gulf News
