National Day celebrations at Shindagha Village highlight rich heritage

The 32nd National Day celebrations took off on Tuesday evening in the presence of Sheikh Saeed bin Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum at the Shindagha Heritage Village, where a crowd of 25,000 converged to watch the spectacle. The highlight of the evening was the `Union Opera', a spectacle of traditional music and dance, performed by over 60 children at the Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House. Expressing the people's admiration and support to the UAE leaders, the opera pays tribute to them for the unity in the country and its rapid development.

After the opera, Sheikh Saeed toured around the photo exhibition of the Royal photographer, Noor Ali Rashid, and veteran lensman Ramesh Shukla. The exhibition, featuring around 100 photographs, covers the rich history of the UAE - right from the event of signing of the Union to the present day. Open to the public at the Sheikh Saeed House till Wednesday next between 5pm to 10pm, the `Union in Photos' exhibition displays pictures that are testimony to the multi-faceted and fast-paced development of the country in a short period of time.

Organised by the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), the celebrations involve a range of entertainment programmes including street carnival, fireworks, and stage and dance shows for children, and will continue for three days at the venue.

A daily schedule of 47 events is slated for the celebrations in the remaining days and will be conducted between 5pm to 10pm. Visitors to the venue will be dazzled with fireworks display at 8pm everyday. As a special treat for children, the Heritage Village also hosted a Fun Theatre, the highlights of which are a variety of games, quiz contests and cartoon characters. (The Khaleej Times)
