As part of the 40th UAE National Day celebrations, the Ministry of Labour (MoL) in the UAE organised a water parade from Kalbaa to the shores of Fujairah in conjunction with the Fujairah International Marine Club.

With the participation of eight rowing boats, the parade kicked off from Kalbaa Corniche to the Fujairah marine sports club — travelling a distance of four kilometres.

The boats, which are up to 30 feet in length, carried 88 young UAE national sailors and were decked with pictures of the seven Rulers of the Emirates. Each boat carried the picture of a Ruler, led by the first one, which had an image of the late leader, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

On the occasion, Yusuf Abdullah Abdul Ghani, assistant undersecretary for policy and strategy, said: "This parade represents the love of the UAE youth for the inherent values enshrined in the Union, and they they have embodied this love in a fantastic portrait which expressed their loyalty to the UAE and its elders.”

"There is no doubt that our celebrations of this occasion, which is dear to the heart of all those who love this country, are evidence of the bond that brings people of our beloved country together for the love of the homeland and the leader.”

He added, "Since Sheikh Zayed — may God bless his soul — crowned his efforts to form the Union, the development and prosperity wheel did not stop, not to mention the role played by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan — may God protect him — for developing the State and meeting citizens' needs.”

All participants were welcomed in a ceremony that featured a poetry reading by Khalfan Al Zahmi and popular dances. Ali Al Zaabi, member of the organising committee at the MoL, commended the participants and said, "Our participation expresses the firm love we have in our hearts for this country and the bond of its sons, who will spare no effort in working for the progress and advancement of the nation at all levels.”

Towards the end of the event, all participating authorities as well as the captains of the kayaks were honoured. - The Gulf Today
