An experimental electronic link between the UAE and Oman was launched on Monday to ease visa procedures at the border.

The connection between Hatta in the UAE and Wajahah in Oman was inaugurated by Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Interior.

The project, being implemented on the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will streamline immigration procedures at the single entry and exit checkpoint. The new system will help process travel papers faster, reducing the delays at the checkpoints

During the first phase, which went into operation yesterday, Emiratis, Omanis and other GCC nationals will benefit from the new arrangement. Expatriates and tourists will be able use the facility when the second phase is implemented. (Gulf News)
