A new group of injured Iraqi citizens, including children will be flown to the UAE for medical treatment on Sunday; it was announced in Abu Dhabi yesterday.

The group of 55, all of whom sustained serious injuries as a result of the on-going violence in Iraq, will be flown to the UAE on a special plane, in accordance with the directives of President H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The plane is equipped with medical facilities.

President Khalifa has also ordered the UAE Red Crescent Society and the Abu Dhabi General Authority for Health Services to accord maximum healthcare for the wounded Iraqis.

"President H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces have closely been following the plight of the Iraqi people, particularly those vulnerable groups that are caught in the middle of violence", said Khalifa Nasser Al Suweidi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the RCS.

He added that the medical assistance offered to the wounded Iraqis is part of the comprehensive humanitarian support provided by the UAE to the people of Iraq.

"The UAE leadership has been deeply concerned by the on-going violence and the tragic consequences that have ensued. This latest humanitarian gesture is therefore aimed at alleviating the suffering of those affected by the recent events in Iraq", he said, adding: "The Iraqi people are desperately in need of such humanitarian initiatives".

The RCS is acting on the instructions of its Chairman Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan to ensure that the Presidential orders are fully executed,” said Al Suweidi. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
